ss.7.c.3.5: amending the constitution

  An amendment when a change is made to the Constitution. For an amendment to be passed, it first must be proposed. It can be proposed in two ways. It can be proposed by a 2/3 vote in both houses or 2/3 of state legislatures can ask congress to hold a national convention however there was only one amendment that was proposed this way. Once proposed, it must be ratified by the states. It can be ratified in two ways. The proposed amendment can be sent to state legislatures for approval or be sent to a state convention for consideration. After being ratified by at least ¾ of the states, it will be part of the constitution. This process can be related to students voting for a change in school rules, first it is discussed among the administrators, then they vote on it and ask for the student body’s opinion and they vote on it, or vice versa.
