SS.7.c.1.8: Federalists and anti-federalists

The Federalists and Anti-federalists had different viewpoints, but one thing for sure, they all just wanted this new government to work out. What exactly was each groups viewpoint? Well, let's find out. So, to start, the federalist argued that a strong national government was needed to keep the country united. Main leaders of this group were Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison. When publishing the constitution, this group posted papers known as “The Federalist Papers” to help increase support on the constitution, but this plan didn’t go so well, you see, there was an opposing group who believed opposite of what the Federalists believed these people are known as Anti-Federalists. The Anti-Federalists feared a constitution that established such a strong national government, they believed it defeated the purpose of the Revolutionary War, and they thought it wouldn’t protect the states’ power or their own freedom.
